Jiu-Jitsu de Graça
This saying and patch on my kimono were the beginning of SOULFIGHT.NET in 2001. People thought I wore the patch to teach Jiu-Jitsu for Free, as in no payment. It meant that when I do jiu-jitsu, I am free—free to express myself honestly. I had the patch made in Rio de Janeiro in children’s letters because jiu-jitsu can make an adult feel like a child again.
The Jiu-Jitsu de Graça expression came out of a talk I had with a surfer/Carlson Gracie black belt I met in a surf shop in Brazil. We surfed at Prainha, Rio de Janeiro, with the new board I purchased. He asked me during the drive the beach why I surf…I said to be free. Then he asked why I train jiu-jitsu…I said to be free. I heard next, “Tony, you are Jiu-Jitsu de Graça!” Like a soul fighter, I replied with a smile.
Since 2004, Soulfight.net has been committed to spreading the knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through instructional programs, workshops, interviews, competition tournaments, such as the SOUL CUP I and II, and instructional seminars with world champions and high-level black belts. Soulfight.net has always had two divisions: the surfing division and the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu division.
Due to other projects, we at Soulfight.net have been more focused on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Division. Look for more Instructional DVDs, Workshops, and Seminars coming out of Southern California!
SOULFIGHT.net is the self-expression of your performance in the academy, arena, or elements!
